Ravina’s Chester Made Story: From Student to Visiting Lecturer

From the moment I arrived to study my MSc Health Service Management degree, Chester felt like a second home. Choosing the University of Chester was one of the best decisions I have ever made, not only because of the degree I pursued, but because of the person I became along the way.

My Academic and Personal Development

What I loved most about my course was the way learning was approached. Independent thinking, criticality and curiosity were genuinely encouraged, allowing me to develop both academically and personally.

Alongside my Master’s degree, I embraced every opportunity to grow. I completed a Leadership and AI course, earned a Micro MBA, and became carbon literate through the Carbon Literacy Training programme. What made this journey even more meaningful was progressing to become a Carbon Literacy Facilitator, giving me the opportunity to share knowledge and contribute towards creating a more sustainable future.

Treasured Moments

Some of my most treasured memories came from being involved beyond the classroom. Through volunteering, engaging with different communities and participating in student elections, I learned invaluable lessons in leadership, resilience and the power of making a positive impact. These experiences pushed me beyond my comfort zone and helped shape the values I carry with me today.

Ironically, one of my favourite memories came at the end of my student journey. Standing on the graduation stage and delivering a speech with my parents, professors, friends and fellow graduates in the audience was a truly unforgettable moment. It was more than a speech; it was a celebration of growth, gratitude and everything Chester had given me.

How Chester Transformed Me

Looking back, Chester did far more than provide me with an education; it transformed me. It challenged me to become a better version of myself, inspired me to lead with purpose, and showed me the importance of giving back to communities.

Even today, I carry the lessons, friendships and values I gained at Chester with immense pride. It will always hold a special place in my heart – not just as the University where I studied, but as the place I found my voice, discovered my passions and built the foundations for the person I am today.

Following My Dream

Since graduating from the University of Chester, I have followed a dream that has always been close to my heart: a career in academia. I applied for different opportunities, remained patient and kept believing in the path I had chosen.

One of the proudest moments of my journey came when I was appointed as a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Chester itself. For me, it was far more than a job title; it was the fulfilment of a dream and the beginning of a journey I hope to continue growing for many years to come.

What I Love About Academia

What I love most about academia is the opportunity to connect with students. There is something incredibly rewarding about seeing learners become more confident, discover their potential, and take meaningful steps towards their careers and aspirations. Knowing that I can play even a small part in that journey is what makes this work so special to me.

I truly believe education has the power to transform lives, and contributing to students’ personal, leadership and professional development gives me immense purpose.

My Advice to You

If I could offer one piece of advice to current and future students, it would be this: stay focused, stay disciplined and keep showing up. Success rarely happens overnight, but consistent effort and a willingness to embrace the journey will always take you further than you imagine.

Enjoy every moment, make the most of every opportunity and trust that your hard work will one day bear fruit.

Being a Chester graduate means carrying forward a spirit of curiosity, resilience and lifelong learning, and I am proud to continue that journey as both an alumnus and an educator.
