Student Voice and Communications
Student Communications
Continue to transform our approach to student communications, through the development of our ‘Student Shout Out’ brand across email, social media, intranet and website channels. We will work closely with students to streamline our communications, promote a ‘plain English’ approach and continue to develop our student-centred University mobile app. We will ensure that key communications are promoted effectively to applicants as well as students, to maximise engagement from an early stage. We will develop our capacity to target specific student groups, for example students at different University sites; students at different intake points; apprentices; international and postgraduate students. Our student hub areas, “Connect”, at each of our sites will provide a central point of information, support and signposting for students.
Student Surveys
Develop a coordinated approach to student surveys, in order to promote best practice and maximise response rates. We will work with the CSU to agree survey questions and topics for internal surveys. We will use short ‘pulse’ surveys to capture rapid input. We will develop our approach to module-level evaluation to allow us to capture cross-institutional issues and themes. We will participate actively in key sector surveys such as the National Student Survey and the International Student Barometer Survey We will improve the dissemination of survey analysis to staff and ensure that students routinely receive feedback on survey outcomes and actions taken.
Student Concerns
Clarify processes for escalating and responding to student concerns that cannot be resolved locally, including escalation mechanisms via Education and Student Experience Committees and the institutional Education Committee and Student Voice and Experience Committee, reporting into Senate. In addition, the University is committed to providing a safe and inclusive space for all and will ensure students are aware of the Report a Concern process to enable us to investigate unacceptable behaviours and provide support.
Students engaging with local decision-making
Work with local and regional Councils, third-sector organisations and community groups to develop new ways for students to engage in and influence decision-making, including the Students in Chester initiative and the University and Community Liaison Committee.
