Dr Rachel Massey

Biography
Dr Rachel Massey joined the University of Chester in 2018. She is responsible for the delivery of teaching, learning and assessment on the Global Affairs, Politics and International Relations Programme. Her research interests rest in feminist theory, its application in international politics, and issues surrounding sexual violence. Alongside her teaching and research, Rachel is a member of the University of Chester’s Equality Forum and the Department of Social and Political Science's Disability Link Tutor. She is also a member of the Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
Teaching and Supervision
Rachel teaches across a range of modules on the undergraduate Global Affairs, Politics and International Relations Programme. She also supervises students pursuing PhDs.
Research and Knowledge Exchange
Rachel’s research is broadly located in the intersections of feminist theory and international relations. She is curious about the gendered, sexualised, and racialised dimensions of international engagements with sexual violence in conflict settings. Rachel is currently engaged in research that builds on insights from black feminism to critically examine global policy, advocacy and scholarship on sexual violence. Rachel is also committed to research that takes seriously antimilitarism in international politics.
