Cybersecurity degree achieves prestigious certification
The University’s BSc (Hons) Cybersecurity course has achieved full certification by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), part of GCHQ, recognising the University’s commitment to developing highly skilled cyber security professionals.
The NCSC certification confirms that the course meets rigorous national standards and equips students with the knowledge and skills required to address real-world cyber security challenges. It also provides assurance to employers that graduates have studied relevant, up-to-date material aligned with industry needs.
With a growing number of UK universities offering degrees that include cyber security content, it can be challenging for students and employers to assess the quality and focus of individual programmes. NCSC-certified degrees address this by providing a clear benchmark of excellence, helping:
- Universities to attract high-quality students from the UK and overseas
- Employers to recruit skilled cyber professionals and develop existing cyber capability
- Prospective students to make informed decisions when choosing a highly valued qualification aligned with their career goals
The certification further strengthens the University of Chester’s reputation for delivering industry-relevant education and supporting the UK’s critical cyber security skills agenda.
Professor Silvester Czanner, Head of School of Computer and Engineering Sciences at the University of Chester said: “Achieving NCSC certification for our BSc (Hons) Cybersecurity course is a significant milestone and reflects the quality, relevance and rigor of our teaching.
“This recognition demonstrates our commitment to preparing graduates with the specialist knowledge and practical skills needed to succeed in a rapidly evolving cyber security landscape, while supporting the UK’s growing demand for cyber professionals.”

Dr Toyosi Oyinloye, Deputy Head of the School of Computer and Engineering Sciences at the University of Chester, said: “The NCSC certification requires the Cybersecurity courses to be in alignment with the Cybersecurity Body of Knowledge (CyBOK). At the School of Computer and Engineering Sciences in Chester, our Cybersecurity courses comprise of modules that address key knowledge areas of CyBOK. We also have colleagues with expertise across the various CyBOK topic areas ensuring that our students develop skills that are most sought after by the cybersecurity industry.
